Remembrance Day - SfW Education & Childcare - November 2010

Aim
School learners attending their weekly Skills for Work Childcare class have been using their creative skills to make poppies to decorate the memorial gates at the front of the college's Midmills building on Stephen's Brae. This is the third year that students from the class have carried on the tradition.

This SfW class introduces school learners to the skills they need to care for and educate young children. The lesson considered how we should explain Remembrance Day to children under 8. As with all our creative classess we discuss how we would carry out the activity with children and what skills they would learn. There are 40 learners from secondary schools across the Highlands attending the SfW Childcare course and over 200 attending a range of courses on the Vocational Pathways programme. The Skills for Work Childcare and Education course is one of twelve courses on the Vocational Pathways Programame for learners to attend once a week.
