Studying Highers at College
What if I don't achieve the Highers I sit at school?
We deliver a wide range of Intermediate 2, Highers, Advanced Highers and online Highers with a few subjects delivered by Open Learning.
Can I be a full-time student studying highers?
Yes. You can take 3 Highers plus a related skills/Int 2 option plus the personal development element. You may take 4 Highers subject to interview.
How flexible is the HIgher Programme?
There is a growing number of Highers delivered through the Blackboard virtual learning environment. The online teaching materials will be supported by regular Saturday workshops based in Inverness College and ongoing mentor support in your school. If you have problems using Blackboard, there is an online guide to overcome these teething problems.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need an Intermediate 2 (Grade A or B) or Standard Grade (1 or 2) or GCSE (A or B) or equivalent units in relevant subjects.
How are online Highers delivered?
Inverness College UHI use the Blackboard virtual learning environment to deliver online Highers in the following courses:
Early Education and Childcare
Human Biology
Media Studies
Psychology
Sociology
Managing Environmental Resources
Architectural Technology
Business Management
What does it cost to enrol on the online Higher Programme?
Highland Council will fund online Highers in Early Education and Childcare, Psychology, Sociology, Architectural Technology and Managing Environmental Resources where school pupils are undertaing these courses. However, if you are a pupil applying for online Human Biology, Media Studies or Business Management the school will be eligible for the funding of these courses. Learners must receive authorisation from the school before applying for these Highers.
Can I apply for online Highers after I leave school?
No. The online Higher Programme is only available to school learners and you must complete this application form when applying. The full time Highers Programme is available to school leavers and adult learners so if you would like to apply for any of these Highers then download this application form and return to Student Records, 3 Longman Drive, FREEPOST IV1 1BR.
