Child Development: In this unit you will learn about child development from birth to age twelve. Development is holistic – that is all aspects of development influence each other. On this course we take a holistic approach to development. You will explore different aspects of development in order to build up a picture of children’s overall development. You will also explore and evaluate what influences development.

Developmental Theory: In this unit you will learn about different theories of development. You will investigate a range of theories and find out how they have influenced the ways we work with children today.

Holistic Approaches: In this unit you will gain an understanding of the basic health needs of children from 0-12 years. You will also examine the role of professionals, carers and agencies in the promotion of child health. You will then investigate influencing factors on the health of children.

The course will be delivered through the online materials with occasional weekday workshops at college. The times and dates of these workshops will be negotiated with the group. At the end of each unit you will sit an assessment either at school or in college. Your final grade will be determined by an exam at the end of the year which you will be able to sit at school.
