Kris Kellas - HNC Engineering SystemsKris Kellas

Kris first came to college one day a week as a school pupil in 2004, to follow  the SVQ Level 1 course in Performance Engineering, which was part of the Vocational Pathways Programme.

The following year he completed the SVQ full-time course in Fabrication and Welding, where he had the opportunity to do work experience. Through his own efforts he was offered an apprenticeship with James Jones and Son, a timber merchants company in Forres.

Currently, Kris is in his third year in college, on block release. As an apprentice, Kris uses his skills to fix a range of machinery, including conveyors and chain saws, and he is learning a lot by working alongside colleagues who are engineering experts.

'I get real encouragement from the lecturers. Although I've been at college as a full-time, part-time and block-release student, the time has gone by really quickly. There has been so much variety, and we have always been busy.'

Stephanie Smart - HNC Acting & PerformanceSteph Smart - Acting & Performance

Stephanie has had an interest in acting and drama since the age of 7 and 'can't imagine life without drama and music'. She did not go to college straight from school as initially planned, but she made good use of her time by doing some voluntary work in a local primary school teaching drama to P1, P3 and P5. She chose Inverness College as it is was convenient at the time, and she could also study Higher English at the same time as her drama course. She also achieved Higher drama during the same year which was delivered at Eden Court Theatre on a Saturday morning.

'If you don't do well with Highers at school, it's not the end of the world. You can always do them at College'.

'I find computers fascinating and I just want to learn more and more. The fact that I really enjoy virtually every aspect of my course is a real bonus'. Donna is hoping to complete her computing degree in the summer 2012. 'I would recommend to anyone to come to Inverness College as it's a great place to study, with excellent lecturers and a great place to socialise, with an active Student Association'.

'I like the fact that I am able to study locally, if that wasn't the case I simply wouldn't be at College'.
