Careers Scotland works with schools, colleges, businesses and a range of statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure that individuals have access to the experiences they require to manage and develop their careers effectively. Above all, Careers Scotland works with individuals to assist them in developing their unique career path through effective decision-making.
Vocational Pathways
In academic session 2002/2003 Inverness College UHI embarked on a groundbreaking programme to enable Highland Secondary School pupils from S3 to S6 to attend College and study for vocational qualifications.
Pupils from a large number of Highland Secondary Schools are currently attending Inverness College UHI to study vocational subjects ranging from engineering to hairdressing, professional cookery to construction, and motor vehicle maintenance to childcare. The main target is to bridge the gap between school and employment and motivate the pupils by helping them make much more informed choices in their future career paths.
The college works very closely with Highland Council Education Service in developing and delivering this exciting initiative, which is seen as a way of helping young people, acquire some of the vital skills employers want.
This project won a Gold award at the 2003 SQA Awards and was highlighted as an example of Best Practice in the FE sector by HMIE in September 2003.
