Business and Professional Services

The business and professional services department delivers courses in administration, medical administration, office management and IT, CIPD, accounting, para-legal and law, marketing, event management and tourism and hospitality.

Leadership, Administration and  Management

This department has strong ties with the business sector, offering short courses and continuing professional development opportunities for those in work situations.  It covers business and public sector management, ILM, leadership, and human relations.

Engineering and technologies

The School of Business and Technology also delivers courses and programmes in a  range of disciplines including Engineering, Fabrication, Welding & Non-destructive Testing, Manufacturing, Electrical, Mechanical and Automotive.  Additionally, the school is responsible for Computing, Computer Technology & Networking, Mathematics and cross-college core skills Numeracy. 

Links with industry are strong and very important and the School works closely with local employers such as LifeScan Scotland, Wavegen, Arjo Wiggins, British Alcan and Baxters of Speyside delivering a wide range of subjects from SVQ Level 1 through to BSc.

Engineering and Science staff are also heavily involved in delivering and assessing subjects in the workplace and deliver a range of Modern Apprenticeships, vocational qualifications and tailored short courses off-site.

The School is Scheme lead for the UHI BSc Engineering programmes.

New technology centre

The School of Engineering and Science has launched a Rapid Prototyping and Computer Aided Manufacture facility with additional funding from Lifescan Scotland and Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey Enterprise.  This facility aims to give schools, other colleges, individuals and businesses access to design facilities, rapid prototyping and small batch production.

Science

Teaching of Environmental Science at Inverness College UHI is long established.  Courses offered in Science range from introductory level with Access to Science, Highers in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Managing Environmental Resources and 2 degree courses -

Additionally, science staff are working with other colleges within the UHI network in teaching, research and consultancy.  We have developed Geographical Information Systems short courses with Moray College UHI and are contributing to the MSc Mountain Studies and MSc Interpretation Studies at Perth College UHI.

Aquaculture and Fisheries

The school delivers training in aquaculture and fisheries at SVQ Levels 2 and 3 and Modern Apprenticeship.  This is delivered in the candidates workplace.  We also offer short courses in Electrofishing, Fish Health and related aquaculture and fisheries skills.

Research in salmon and sea trout restoration to West Highland rivers is undertaken as part of the Carron Restoration Project.
