This school is responsible for delivering the subject areas, Construction Technology, Electrical & Plumbing Services, Construction Crafts, Forestry and Aboriculture that operate in serving the construction and forestry industries in the Highlands and Islands and beyond.

Construction

Many students study SVQ’s as full-time or block release Modern Apprenticeships in Joinery, Brickwork, Painting & Decorating, Plumbing & Electrical Installation through industry governing bodies such as the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Scottish & Northern Ireland Plumbers Employers Federation (SNIPEF) and the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT).

Higher Education courses in Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering and Quantity Surveying are gaining more of a reputation within the construction industry and have attracted accreditation from professional bodies such as the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).  Further enhancement of these Higher Education courses has been achieved with the development of articulation routes with Napier University and Robert Gordon’s University, allowing students to gain access to the 2nd year of certain degree programmes and then progression to professional body examinations.

Forestry

The Scottish School of Forestry is a self contained site 6 miles from the centre of Inverness with classrooms, workshops, library, computer suite, refectory and students common room.  Practical activities take place on its 10 hectare site or in nearby forests.  The School has over twenty years experience of delivering practically based forestry training.  It offers both FE and HE, including a BSc in Sustainable Forest Management which has achieved widespread recognition for training graduates to meet current and future industry needs.

The School of Construction and Forestry openly encourages links with outside organisations such as Careers Scotland and Highland Secondary Schools and regularly welcomes groups of pupils, teachers and careers advisers in to College for hands on sessions and taster days.
