UHI Millenium Institute

Interactive UHI Map

Inverness College UHI is a partner in UHI Millennium Institute, a higher education institution delivering university-level courses and research opportunities throughout the Highlands & Islands of Scotland (including Moray and Perthshire) and beyond.

This is achieved through a partnership of colleges, research institutions and an associated learning centre network, located throughout the region.  Currently over 5300 students are studying or undertaking research with UHI.

The UHI mission is to create a University of the Highlands and Islands, and we have set ourselves the target of achieving this by the year 2007.

UHI students normally study at a college or learning centre.  Many take classes at large and busy campuses, while others access their courses through smaller learning centres in some of Britain’s most remote communities.  Their tutors and classmates may be miles away, but trained staff will usually be nearby to give advice and help.

UHI Millennium Institute was designated as a higher education institution in April 2001, enabling us to further develop our university-level programmes.  Our degree courses are validated by the Open University Validation Services (OUVS) and quality assured by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).  Higher National Awards, such as HNC and HND are made under the auspices of the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

These organisations carry out stringent evaluation and quality assurance tests on the content and teaching of all undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.  They ensure that the qualifications earned by our students are at least equivalent to those of other higher education institutions and universities.

Inverness College UHI hosts 25% of all UHI students and over 30% of those students studying for a degree.  We lead the degrees in Business & Management, Social Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Forestry & Conservation and the MSc in Infection Control.  We are also subject network leaders for Business Studies, Building and Social, Cultural and Environmental Studies.
