Aliens invade Ness Islands as Inverness College UHI goes out-of-this-world

All is not as it seems on Ness Islands. The normally tranquil beauty spot has been invaded by creatures from another dimension!

Visitors to the islands were treated to an out-of-this-world performance from Inverness College UHI.

On the 28th and 29th October HNC Acting & Performance students ‘invaded’ the islands to perform a series of eye-catching UFO-themed shows. To add to the bone-chilling experience, visitors were encouraged to dress as zombies and monsters to scare off the invading forces.

Dr. Valerie Beattie, Programme Development Manager at Inverness College UHI, said: “The exciting performances were part of a collaborative vision between education and the local community. Students and lecturing staff from the drama department worked alongside a variety of artists and other professionals as part of the ‘Ness Island Community Project’ and Eden Court’s Art in Motion.”

Drama staff were delighted to work with the students on the challenge presented to them. Angela Morris, lecturer in drama at Inverness College UHI, commented: The focus of this collaboration was to devise a piece of theatre for a non-conventional setting and for an audience constantly on the move. This project has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to participate in this brilliant and unique event, building on the skills they learn on the programme and exposing them to the demands and advantages of working in a professional setting.”
