Jiri KrystlikA creative Inverness College UHI contemporary art student has etched his way onto the exhibition listings at the prestigious Brick Lane Gallery in London – the gallery renowned for displaying the work of world-famous contemporary street artist Banksy.

Jiri Krystlik, a student on Inverness College UHI’s HNC Contemporary Art Practice programme, has been selected by London’s esteemed Brick Lane Gallery to exhibit a range of paintings and sculptures this summer.

Having joined the Art Department three years ago as a student on the Introduction to Art and Design course, Jiri displayed a natural talent, mature attitude and a level of professionalism beyond his introductory level. As one of the first students to join the Saatchi website, Jiri’s dedication and passion for art was evident. This, paired with his knowledge of how art relates to society, has paid dividends, with Jiri being offered the sought-after exhibition place.

Crediting his recent success to three years at Inverness College UHI, Jiri says his progress from the Introduction to Art and Design programme to the HNC Contemporary Art Practice has been an exceptional three years and credits his lecturers for allowing him the opportunity to explore his own creativity and learn about a subject he loves.

Jiri said: “I wanted to study art for a long time and I have had a lot of support from the College. I’m really happy about the Brick Lane Gallery Exhibition, it’s unbelievable for me. I thought one day I would like to exhibit in London, but I never thought for a minute it would be so soon!”

Valerie Beattie, Curriculum Manager Creative Industries & Languages, added: “This is a fantastic feat for Jiri, his dedication to the subject and his College career has been rewarded with the highest compliment – an exhibition in Brick Lane Gallery.

“Jiri has come a long way since he took up his place on the Introduction to Art and Design programme three years ago, and it just goes to show what can be achieved with hard work and dedication. Everyone at Inverness College UHI is delighted for him.”

For those not lucky enough to be able to visit Brick Lane Gallery to see Jiri’s work, there will be an opportunity to view it locally at the two graduation exhibitions scheduled for the HNC Contemporary Art Practice students. The first takes place at Inverness College UHI Midmills Campus from June 15th to 22nd this year, whilst the second is being staged at Inchmore Gallery, Kirkhill, Inverness, where the HNC Contemporary Art Practice Graduation Exhibition will be held from June 25th to July 9th.
