Inverness College UHI makes moves to CREATE entrepreneurs of the future
Budding entrepreneurs at Inverness College UHI have been ‘getting connected’ with the world of business after attending the first in a series of talks organised by the College’s CREATE Entrepreneurs Club, designed to promote enterprise and inspire Scotland’s business leaders of the future.
Staged at the new, state of the art, Highland centre for Enterprise and Innovation, the new Entrepreneurs Club kicked off in February with a visit from guest speaker Chris Blake, founding Managing Director of Blake Geoservices Ltd. Speaking on the theme, ‘Getting Connected’, Chris gave valuable advice to students about the importance of networking in business.
After the event Chris commented, “It was an absolute pleasure to be involved and meet the students, I am certainly looking forward to next month’s get together.”
Providing students with the opportunity to share ideas and meet like-minded people, the new CREATE Entrepreneurs Club uses local business talent to provide inspiration and information for those interested in finding out more about various enterprise opportunities.
The next meeting, taking place on Wednesday, March 30, covers the theme of creativity, with Alan McLeod, a local creative entrepreneur, the guest speaker. Marketing will be the theme for the third and final workshop, taking place on April 27, for which Michelle Russell, owner of local business Snow Marketing, will join Colin Munro of the newly launched Mi Inverness at the podium.
Emily Wilson from Invergordon, a 19-year-old BA Business & Management student, at Inverness College UHI commented: “I found the first meeting both extremely interesting and motivating. Chris’ visit certainly has convinced me that I am on the right career path.
“He spoke earnestly of the importance of networking in business, and offered some great advice. I also got to meet other like-minded students, who only had positive things to say about the meeting. It’s fantastic opportunity that Inverness College UHI has given students, and I am certainly going to attend the next two monthly visits.”
CREATE, The Highland Centre for Enterprise and Innovation at Inverness College UHI is funded by European Social Fund, The Highland Council and Inverness College UHI.
