Discretionary and Childcare Funds

The College has cash limited Discretionary Funds available each year for Further and Higher Education Students. These Funds are for students who find that their Student Loan or College Bursary is not sufficient to cover the cost of living or childcare.

Applications are assessed by the Student Funding Team within the college. They will assess if the student is eligible for any help to cover the cost of childcare, rent/mortgage or other necessary living costs.

Each applicant is required to back up all income and expenditure noted on the form with documentary proof such as bank statements, tenancy/mortgage agreement or letter from the nursery/childminder showing weekly costs.

There are two types of applications:

Further Education Discretionary and Childcare – for those on Access NC/NQ or SVQ courses

Higher Education Discretionary and Childcare – for those on HNC/HND or degree level courses

PLEASE ENSURE YOU COLLECT THE CORRECT FORM

Application forms are available from the Student Funding Office based at the Longman Campus or from receptions at Midmills, Dingwall, Scottish Forestry School and Lochaber.  If you wish a form sent to you please telephone the Student Funding Office on 01463 273461.  Completed forms should be returned to the Student Funding Office along with supporting evidence up to two weeks before your course begins. Your application can be assessed but no award can be made until you have been enrolled on your course.  Students can also apply once they have enrolled on their course

It may be useful to look at your finances before applying to the discretionary funds.  Click here for a Student Budget Planner or request one from the Guidance Team.

If you have any questions about filling in a discretionary fund application please contact the Student Funding Office on 01463 273461 or the Guidance Team based at the Longman and Midmills Reception areas on 01463 273000.
