Learning Support
Inverness College offers support to all students who have a disability or specific learning difficulty. Additional Support staff also provide services for students who have long term medical conditions; for ‘looked after children’ and for those with mental health or social and emotional difficulties.
Provision includes:
- organising personal support such as a classroom assistant; loan of equipment; 1:1 study skills support sessions; training to use literacy support software
- helping HE students apply for additional financial support through the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)
- organising alternative assessment and examination arrangements, e.g. extra time, reader, scribe, separate room
- helping students to negotiate extensions to deadlines or alternative presentation of materials, needed because of illness or disability
- meeting students before they apply or during induction if there are concerns around transitions from school
- arranging assessment for students who suspect they may have dyslexia, or other specific learning difficulty.
