What is special about this course?

ECDL Essentials is an excellent introduction to the world of IT, with units covering the fundamentals of using IT, with a particular focus on the first steps in using a computer, explanations of the internet and email and how they can be used safely and productively.

Although ECDL Essentials is a fixed combination, the achievement can be used towards a flexible Level 1 certificate or as credit transfer towards higher level ITQ qualification such as  Level 2 certificate or diploma.  Successfully achieving Essentials and Extra will provide you wih the full ECDL award.

Entry requirements

Basic use of computer

  • Module 1 Security for IT users

  • Module 2 IT user Fundamentals

  • Module 3 Word Processing
  • IT User Fundamentals - builds the learners confidence by teaching basic interaction with computers, from start up to productive use and basic computer house-keeping
  • Internet and email - this unit helps the learner understand how to use inernet and email in a safe and secure way. It explains key terms and builds a knowledge of the fundamentals of computer security, and how to start browsing the internet and using email.
  • IT security for users - the Security for IT Users unit provides the learner wih an essential understanding of how to use a computer in a safe and secure manner, protecting their data and that of other users.

 

How will I study my course?

The course is delivered online using specially developed software. If you would appreciate a short induction session, please contact us to arrange this. Most people manage to find their way around very easily as the site is very user friendly.

The modules can be undertaken in any order and at your own pace.

How will I be assessed?

Your progress will be monitored by ECDL staff at the College and you are welcome to drop into the workshops running at the College.  These take place at our Inverness Campus or at the Falcon Education Centre in Aviemore.

Email support is also included.
