Fashion Make-up HNC

What is special about this course?

If you want to develop your expertise in fashion make-up and related activities, this HNC* is ideal for you. A creative, innovative programme of study, it allows you to develop your skills in make-up techniques, personalised to your own individual interests.

The course covers basic skin care and make-up, fashion and photographic techniques, alongside hairdressing skills that focus on styling techniques and long hair design. You will have the opportunity to produce a professional portfolio of work that will support you in gaining employment in this vibrant and exciting fashion related industry.

Entry requirements

  • 1 higher at grade C or above in a relevant subject area and a core skill profile at SCQF level 5
  • Alternatively, hairdressing or beauty course at SCQF level 6 or S/NVQ 3 or equivalent.
  • Applicants with relevant work experience will also be considered on an individual basis 

Year 1 - HNC

You will study units in:

  • Make-up Artistry: Basic Make-up
  • Skin Care and Eye Treatments.
  • Fashion and Photographic Make-up.
  • Principles and Practice of Selling
  • Long Hair Design

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time
  • Part Time (Structured)

You will learn mainly though practical workshops and demonstrations, with some lectures and access to online support materials. Participation in fashion shows, events and activities will be an essential part of this study programme. These events may be out with the normal hours.

All students will be required to purchase a make-up kit and brushes. Costs may also be associated with any portfolios and photographic prints presented.

How long will my course last?

  • Full-time: 1 year @ 15 hours per week
  • Part-time (structured): 2 years @ 7 hours per week

Fees are payable in advance each academic year unless otherwise agreed.

What can I do on completion of my course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you might like to consider a career as a make-up artist working with high fashion make up companies or freelance working with photographers, hair stylists and model agencies.

Can I progress into further study?

On completion of the HNC you can progress to the HND Fashion Make-up at another institution.
