NEBOSH National General Certificate

What is special about this course?

The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is a qualification designed to help those with health and safety responsibilities (e.g. managers, supervisors and employee representatives) to discharge more effectively their organisational duties and functions. The course offers excellent grounding in the fundamentals of occupational health and safety management.

The General Certificate is split into 3 units (see below) and candidates are separately certificated for each unit. Candidates successfully completing all three will gain the widely recognised NEBOSH National General Certificate in Health and Safety.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate has been accredited and credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). It sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6 with 15 SCQF credit points.

Entry requirements

  • Safety advisers
  • Managers and supervisors with part-time responsibility for health and safety
  • Personnel managers
  • Facilities managers

The three units are:

  • NGC1 Management of health and safety
  • NGC2 Controlling workplace hazards

The practical exam must be carried out in the candidate’s own workplace. The workplace should be able to provide a sufficient range of hazards in the areas covered to provide an adequate range for identification. Candidate reports must be completed within the specified deadline.
