NQ Beauty SCQF Level 5

What is special about this course?

An exciting introduction to the beauty and make-up industry, encouraging creativity and client care to allow you to make informed career choices in the beauty industry.

This course focusses on developing skills in make-up application, skin care, nail art and selling to prepare you for employment within a make-up or skin care house or progression to study at SCQF 6 NC Beauty care.

You will develop skills in a realistic working environment and an opportunity to work with professional product brands and gain training in skin care products. 

Whilst timetabled in the salons you will be expected to follow a dress code to follow industry standards of professionalism and hygiene. Details of uniform and kits to be purchased will be given on successful application.

You will practice on each other prior to completing assessments on peers and external clients, which you will be encouraged to provide.

This course includes a large practical element whilst promoting self-directed study and developing essential employability skills for the world of work.

Entry requirements

  • Three passes at general grade National 4 including English. Biology is desirable.
  • Introduction to Beauty (SCQF 4)/NPA Cosmetology
  • Your personal statement should reflect your desire to work in this field. Communication skills, a willingness to learn practical skills and working with the general public are essential.
  • Ideally, applicants will have experience/knowledge and interest in beauty.
  • Applicants are encouraged from mature students who may not have formal qualifications but have skills required to meet the demands of the course.

  • Selling skills

As part of this course, you will also: 

  • Engage with local charities, community groups and promotional activities.
  • You may get the opportunity to participate in competition work, visits to industry trade shows and CPD.
  • Train with a professional skin care brand.

Study is usually full-time over three days, however, there may be opportunities to study part time.

If you have been living in the UK for at least 3 years, are ordinary resident in Scotland before the course start date it is likely that you will not have to pay fees for your full time course.  Please check our Fee Waiver Policy.

Full time students will automatically receive the fee waiver if they are eligible. We will use the information provided on your course application form to determine whether you are eligible.
