Gain an insight into applied illustration, book binding and publication. Make your stories come to life visually and find out how the professionals do it. This is an ideal course if you're keen in pursuing an interest or career in the publishing or craft sector.

You'll cover:

• An introduction to applied illustration that may include editorial, narrative fiction, advertising, promotion and branding.

• Innovative art and design, illustration and printmaking techniques to visualise your creative writing. 

• Book binding using a range of traditional and contemporary practices

• Gain an insight into professional book publication within today’s marketplace.

Units you will study:

  • Mixed media portfolio
  • Art and design project
  • Developmental drawing
  • Printmaking and producing print

Day and time: Weekly, Tuesday, 6pm to 9pm

Start date: 25 October 2022

Course length: 30 weeks

Delivery mode: Blended. Three hours of face to face study on campus, supported by one hour of independent learning via Brightspace, our virtual learning environment, per week. 

SCQF level: This course represents 30 SCQF credits and is delivered at SCQF level 7.

No formal entry qualifications are required but applicants should have a basic knowledge of art and design related disciplines.

Course fee: £344.

You could be eligible for financial support to pay your course fee if you earn less than £25,000 per annum and meet residency criteria. Find out more about the Student Awards Agency Scotland Part Time Fee Grant.

If you are not eligible for the part time fee grant, you may take advantage of paying your course fees in instalments. Payment can be spread over 3 months, with the first payment of approximately £115 payable before starting the course.
