It's all about the face - campus learning
Do you love make-up and eyebrows? Then this exciting course will develop your creative make-up and brow skills while developing a professional understanding of skin treatments and luxury facials. You will be work with clients in our simulated beauty salon environment on campus. Our course will provide you with formal qualifications and includes the following Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) units.
Facial therapy treatments
Develop the skills and underpinning knowledge to perform luxury facials and devise treatment plans for clients. This unit will give you key knowledge of the skin to complement the make-up unit or allow you to offer bespoke facial treatments to clients. You will learn how to consult with clients, devise facial therapy treatment plans, provide homecare, after care and retail recommendations and evaluate the effectiveness of the facial therapy treatment. You will be assessed on the theoretical aspects of this unit as well as the practical.
Make up skills
Enter the exciting and creative world of make-up and develop skills in make-up application from natural day to glam evening and inspirational. You will plan and design make-up looks with creative face plans and research make up products, tools and techniques. You will also create photo finish looks for assessment. You will be required to bring in your own models for assessment.
Brow artistry
Learn the current trends in eyebrow styling, colouring and shaping to give a highly defined brow. You will research different brow treatments and gain a comprehensive knowledge of the subject including identifying consultation, contra-indications, general effects and maintenance requirements of eyebrow treatments as well as identifying face shapes and eyebrow shapes. You will be required to bring in your own models for assessment.
Day and time: Weekly, Wednesday, 6pm to 9pm
Course length: 30 weeks

End date: 2nd June 2023
Delivery mode: Face to face, on campus. Online support and materials will be provided via Brightspace, our virtual learning environment.
SCQF level: This course represents 30 SCQF credits and is delivered at SCQF level 7.

Teaching and assessment
Your work will be continuously assessed. There will also be a closed-book assessment to test your therory knowledge of facial therapy treatments and a written assignment on brow artistry.

Fees and funding
Course fee: £344
You could be eligible for financial support to pay your course fee if you earn less than £25,000 per annum and meet residency criteria. Find out more about the Student Awards Agency Scotland Part Time Fee Grant.
If you are not eligible for the part time fee grant, you may take advantage of paying your course fees in instalments. Payment can be spread over 3 months, with the first payment of approximately £115 payable before starting the course.
