I am the senior researcher at the Centre for Remote and Rural Communities, the University of the Highlands Islands, based in Inverness, Scotland. The Centre was established in 2004 as the UHI PolicyWeb. I currently supervise four PhD students on topics related to my areas of research interests. I welcome applications from those wishing to pursue a PhD in areas that overlap or border with my research interests.

I am an Associate Director at the Centre for Research in Families and Relationships (CRFR) at the University of Edinburgh and a member of the faculty of the International Comparative Rural Policy Studies (ICRPS) summer institute since 2005 and a member of the Rural Policy Learning Commons and lead the Migration in Remote and Rural Areas ( MIRRA) .

I undertake research commissioned by a wide range of agencies and some of my current projects are listed on the website.
