Study & Research Opportunities
The Rivers and Lochs Institute does not offer a specialised undergraduate degree, however it is developing close links with the BSc Environmental Science Degree.
Internships can be arranged for undergraduate or postgraduate students to gain relevant experience in freshwater ecology and biodiversity.
Go here for information on available CPD courses.
Four programmes of research study are available:
- Post-Doctoral Research: the RLI is currently expanding both its laboratory and fieldwork capacity, see below for any enquiries
- Doctoral Research : RLI supports Doctoral Research programmes in molecular genetics and freshwater biodiversity. There are currently 6 PhD students at the Institute
- A Master by Research can be studied in either part-time (two years) or full-time (one year) modes. The programme of study is entirely by research and can be a topic of the student’s choice, or may be a project offered by staff and associates of the RLI. There are currently 2 Master’s students at the Institute
- An MRes programme in Freshwater Biodiversity is currently being developed by RLI and will be available (subject to validation) by August 2018. This will comprise 40% taught modules and a 60% research thesis.
Please email Dr. Melanie Smith if you would like to discuss research opportunities at RLI.
