Hannah Munro studied Advanced Certificate in Forestry

Hannah (18) from Portmahomack did not consider any other colleges because she knew straightaway the Scottish School of Forestry was the right choice for her.

Hannah said: “I spoke to the Scottish School of Forestry staff at an open evening. It seemed like the perfect choice for me. I started doing the NC Rural Skills course and have progressed up to the Certificate in Forestry and I've finished the Advanced Certificate course in 2022. I enjoyed advancing the skills I have learnt and one of the highlights was the chainsaw training, which was delayed due to Covid. I also enjoyed using the machinery and learning about ecology. The support from the lecturers was good; they are always there when you need them.

“I have all the skills required for a job within the forestry industry and I now plan to try to get a position with Forest and Land Scotland. If unsuccessful, I will go on to study the school’s HND Arboriculture and Urban Forestry Course.”

For Hannah, the best thing about studying at UHI Inverness was being so close to home that she did not need to move away, because she enjoys the scenery and the outdoor life that the Highlands has to offer.

Her advice to potential students considering her course is just to go for it.

“The Scottish School of Forestry campus is unique. You are outside most of the time and it is a peaceful place to study,” said Hannah.
