Covid-19 - FAQs for Applicants

Are you still accepting applications for the 2020/21 academic year?

Yes, you can apply now. Our admissions department continue to accept process applications and we look forward to welcoming new students in the new academic year.

We're preparing to start our autumn term as planned, with Further Education students (SCQF Level 1-6 courses) starting on w/c 31st August, and Higher Education students (SCQF Level 7+ courses) starting on 7th September, unless otherwise notified.

How will changes to exam arrangements affect my offer?

Whilst we recognise that this is a time of uncertainty for many awaiting results, potential applicants can rest assured that we will consider all appropriate evidence to ensure applicants are not disadvantaged by Covid-19 and have an opportunity to come and study with us at a level and on a course to suit their circumstances and aspirations.

We have been informed by SQA that results and grades for National 5s and Highers will come through to us as normal. So if you receive a conditional offer in relation to SQA exam results, we will make decisions and offers in the usual way.

We will be as flexible as we can where applicants are not able to meet the conditions of their offers in the way they expected, or at the time they expected. We are in a unique position to be able to offer our applicants a range of access options to suit their circumstances.

What happens after I accept a place?

You will receive several emails from our admissions department in the run up to starting your course, covering funding, support and arrangements for starting. Information on induction and enrolment dates will be sent to you over the summer.

Are you doing interviews?

Face to face interviews have been suspended for applicants and, in most cases, we will be making decisions based on paper application only. In a small number of cases, a portfolio of work/ interview may be necessary and, if so, this will be facilitated online.

Will courses run as normal from the autumn?

We'll be drawing on our extensive experience in online learning to deliver courses using a blend of video conferencing, other remote learning technologies and some face-to-face teaching, where it is safe and important to do this, from the autumn. We will ensure a safe learning environment in line with public health guidance for those coming into campus for face-to-face teaching.

Lecturing staff are currently working through arrangements for delivery of their courses in the autumn. We will keep in touch with applicants and progressing students as these arrangements are finalised, ensuring they are kept up-to-date on plans for the start of the next academic year.

Can I visit the campus now?

Our campus buildings remain closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We continue to monitor guidance from the Scottish Government.

Can I still apply for student accommodation?

Yes, our accommodation providers Cityheart are accepting applications for the start of the 2020/21 academic year. Accommodation details are provided in communications to all offer holders.

Can I still apply for funding?

Any Higher Education students considering studying with us in the autumn are advised to apply to the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) for funding as soon as possible.

Funding applications for Frther Education students will open as normal in June.
