  • Sarah Sutherland

Sarah teaches accounting and economics. She worked for a health and safety company and a security company as accounts administrator for 5 years whilst she was studying for her BA Hons degree. Prior to that, Sarah has been an events steward and a bar manager.

Sarah started work at Inverness College UHI in 2012.

Interesting fact: Sarah received a certificate for the Project Griffin counter terrorism awareness initiative, which includes modules on 'response to suspicious items' and 'hostile reconnaissance' among others!

  • Sheena Fraser

Sheena teaches accountancy on the BA Accounting & Finance and HNC Public Administration programmes.

She is a graduate of Robert Gordon University, and during her time there she co-authored a paper on corporate fraud and its effects on share price, which she presented to the Annual British Accountants Conference.

Sheena started work at Inverness College UHI in 2015, and prior to that she was a Management Accountant for Norther Recycling Solutions, a local waste management company.  She has also worked for Caithness & Sutherland Women's Aid which gave her a good insight into the accounting practices in a charity.

Interesting fact: Sheena transforms her house every Halloween. There has been a Zombie Apocalypse, good versus evil and most recently Grimm fairy tales.

  • Mark Sutherland

Mark teaches Economics, Finance, Business Law, Business Management and Business Administration on further education, higher national and degree programmes in Business, Accounting, Administration and Information Technology.

Having started out in a management career in 1999, Mark has worked across a multitude of industry sectors including forestry, telecommunications and IT, security, health & safety and event management.

His varied career has given him the opportunity to work in organisations ranging in size from small business start-ups to large blue chip multi nationals.

His management experience has also varied from team and personnel management to project management, finance, operations and client management.

Interesting fact: Mark's life is now ruled by his dog (as well as his wife!). He also has a connection to Hogwarts, having travelled around its filming locations and on the Hogwarts Express, while running the security team for several of the film shoots.

Profile

I have a background in Banking and Finance, gaining experience in my early career within the Branch Network and achieving a managerial role at a young age supporting customers and colleagues across Retail, Business and Corporate Banking.  My time beyond my Branch career saw a switch to Change Management roles working across Human Resources, Retail Banking and Group Chief Executive Divisions over a number of years.  Latterly, I worked as a Senior Project Manager on integration projects for HBOS ahead of their takeover by Lloyds Banking Group. 

I have been a lecturer now at Inverness College UHI for several years which has been a very rewarding role to date, teaching across a wide range of programmes.

Modules Taught

Financial Management and Corporate Financial Decision Making across our BA Hons Business & Management and Accounting & Finance degree programmes.  I also teach business and accounting units at FE and HE level to students in our Business, Accounting and Forestry programmes, and support our Modern Apprentice in Accounting course with students from a range of local employers.

Expertise

I have qualifications in Banking, Finance and Business. I am a Chartered Banker. I have worked in Banking & Finance for 20 years and have specific skills/ knowledge in corporate finance, strategic and business planning and project management including stakeholder engagement.  The core skills that I gained in by time in Banking have transferred easily into lecturing.

Interests

I hold voluntary roles with Dingwall Amateur Swim Club and Beauly Shinty Club, and actively support the Camanachd Association with Membership and Child Protection initiatives, and the promotion of Shinty within our communities.
