Frank To

  • Art and design lecturer
  • Personal academic tutor HND Contemporary Art Practice
  • Module Leader for Professional Profile – BA (Hons) Art and Contemporary Practice

I combine my work as a contemporary artist with teaching. I've been working full-time as an artist since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone, University of Dundee, in 2005, and have exhibited both nationally and internationally. The experience and skills I've accumulated during my time in the arts have been the result of surviving and innovating during the recession. Witnessing the devastating effects of the recession on the arts inspired me to become a lecturer at Inverness College UHI, where I take great pride in equipping students with the essential skills to survive and flourish as part of the new generation of Scottish contemporary artists.

Frank To teaches on the HND Contemporary Art Practice and BA (Hons) Art and Contemporary Practice at Inverness College UHI. His specialism is in contemporary drawing and painting, professional practice and collaboration practice. research skills, and education.

From 2019, Frank has been engaged in the Humanium Metal Art Project. He is one of two artists appointed by IM Swedish Development Partner for the project. He has been chosen by the organisation to develop a new type of colour and painting from Humanium Metal; a new alloy made from melted illegal firearms. Frank is currently working in collaboration with IM Swedish Development Partner to enable project meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal by 2030.
