Little time is no excuse – take a quick walk around Lochan an Eilein on Inverness campus. Easily accessible paved paths with the opportunity to take shortcuts over the bridges or walk a bigger circle all the way up to the National Treatment Centre. 

Please don’t feed any bread to the ducks, there is special duck food in The Bothy available that doesn’t make them ill.

Discover the forest’s battlefield landmarks and pagan traditions at the infamous Prisoner’s Stone and St Mary’s Well, a local ‘clootie well’. Bring a biodegradable rag (cloot) to tie it to a tree for good luck.

  • Distance: 25 miles/3.6 km
  • Approximate time: allow 1.5 hours
  • Terrain: mostly wide, uneven gravel and earth surface, some steep slopes, parts may be muddy after rain

How to get there:

  • By car: From Inverness, take the A96 towards Aberdeen and after about 1 mile (1.6 km) take the 2nd roundabout exit towards Balloch, Culloden and Smithton. At the second set of traffic lights turn right towards Culloden Moor and Croy. The car park is on your left after ¼ mile (400 metres). IV2 7PW is the nearest postcode.
  • By bus: Buses run from Inverness to Smithton, next to the forest.

The Ness Islands are a group of small islands in the middle of the River Ness. The islands are connected by Victorian suspension bridges and are a lovely place to explore. The Ness Islands walk takes you past landmarks including the Ice Centre, Botanic Gardens, and Inverness Cathedral.

How to get there:

Bus stop at union street and cross Greig Street bridge to point 4 on the walk using the Komoot link above.

Active Health Project – Velocity

The Active Health project supports people to become more active as a way of improving their health and wellbeing. There is no cost to participate and anyone registered with a GP practice in the Highlands who would benefit from being more physically active can take part. (Age 16 upwards).

Project workers meet with participants 1:1 (By video call or phone) to discuss motivation, interests, hopes and challenges. They understand it can be difficult to make changes and support people to take small steps towards enjoyable activities.

Pawsitive Vibes – Join our Therapet Walk on Campus

Don’t miss out on this unique way to de-stress and enhance your wellbeing. Join us for a gentle walk around our campus on easily accessible paved paths. Walking with therapets reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, boosts your mood, and fosters social connections.

·       Date & Time: various points throughout the term and at summer club 

·       Location/Meeting Point: meet at 12 noon outside the front doors, if you are joining us throughout the hour we will be somewhere around the Lochann feeding the ducks or playing with the dogs on the grass.

·       Distance: 0.5 miles to 1 mile/1 kilometre to 1.5 kilometres

·       Approximate time: you can join for as long as you like we will be there for an hour

·       Terrain: Pavement / Footpath
