What is special about this course?
NQ 6 Beauty Therapy L6 (SCQF 6) will provide the knowledge, skills and understanding required to become a beauty therapist. This exciting course has been designed to ensure the relevance of units meets the beauty industry requirements and allows for a smooth transition into higher education.
Students carry out treatments during term time on clients in our salons that are equipped with the latest equipment and technology.
This is a fast-paced course delivering the underpinning knowledge in both therapeutic and aesthetic treatments, including body massage, manual and electrical facial treatments, gel extensions, tanning, and brow and lash treatments. These are key for progression into Higher education and meet the requirements of employers.
You will be required to practice on each other and be willing to receive all treatments on your course before completing assessments.

As part of your practical training, you will be responsible for sourcing clients to complete your assessments. To support you in this, we maintain a small bank of regular clients and are happy to promote your services through our social media channels if needed.
To replicate the professional standards in industry, you will be required to wear the designated uniform in all practical classes (black tunic and trousers/leggings) and black closed-toe shoes/trainers provided by yourself. You will also be required to wear no jewellery to practical classes for health and hygiene purposes and to avoid loss.
Entry requirements
3 National 5s at grade C or above or
SVQ 2 Beauty therapy (SCQF 5) or NC/NQ Beauty
Relevant Industry experience.
- Applicants must be 16 years old on or before 30 September

You will learn through a combination of face to face practical sessions, online study via the university's virtual learning environment (VLE), and active self-study and practice at home.
