Carpentry and Joinery (NPA) SQA Level 5

What is special about this course?

This Level 5 course provides students with an introduction to Carpentry and Joinery and the construction industry as a whole, with a specific focus developing hand skills and knowledge, we will also look at new sustainable building technologies and construction techniques giving the candidates an essential introduction to how these Green-Skills, along with retro-fit technologies are being used in the wider industry including practical applications.

The course will give students a multitude of interdisciplinary skills to prepare them for the world of work or further academia. It will incorporate drawing skills, calculations, design elements as well as practical workshop time for projects and skills development with a wide range of machinery and equipment. The course will simulate 'live' projects, where possible, and simulated activity when required, to help students engage with industry and combine the theory with practice. 

The course is specifically designed to ensure the students receive contextualised learning to improve their literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills. All related assignments will be directly linked to the practical units with presentation skills being encouraged. This will allow students to progress onto various pathways including Construction Modern Apprenticeship or Graduate Apprenticeships.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.

Learners are likely to benefit more readily from a study of the award if they enter with a general and broad academic ability showing an aptitude at SCQF level 4 and above for English, Mathematics and other related technical and graphical subjects.
