Beauty Therapy SCQF Level 6

What is special about this course?

This course is being replaced by Access to HNC beauty therapy (NQ6) at SCQF 6 - subject to approval. 

Access to HNC Beauty Therapy (NQ6) will provide the knowledge, skills and understanding required to become a beauty therapist. This exciting course has been designed to ensure the units are relevant to beauty industry requirements and allows for a smooth transition into higher education. 

You will carry out treatments during term time on clients in our salons that are equipped with the latest equipment and technology.

This is a fast paced course delivering the underpinning knowledge in both therapeutic and aesthetic treatments including body massage, manual and electrical facial treatments, gel extensions, tanning and lash and brow treatments. These skills meet the current requirements of employers and are key for progression into higher education. 

As part of your practical training, you will be responsible for sourcing clients to complete your assessments. To support you in this, we maintain a small bank of regular clients and are happy to promote your services through our social media channels if needed.

To replicate the professional standards in industry, you will be required to wear the designated uniform in all practical classes (Black tunic and trousers/leggings) and black closed-toe shoes/trainers provided by yourself. You will also be required to wear no jewellery or piercings to practical classes for health and hygiene purposes and to avoid loss. You are actively encouraged to seek employment in local salons or spa's to enhance your already gained skills and further enhance you as a therapist.

Our fully equipped training salons offer the perfect setting to practice your new-found skills in a commercial environment.   

We partner with amazing professional brands offering free product training and additional practical training to further enhance your learning, as well as the opportunity to be involved in community and charity events, external training, trade shows and competitions. 

To succeed in beauty therapy, you will need to be passionate, committed and enjoy working with people. 

Support is available from student services and lecturers to assist you throughout your course.

Entry requirements

• SVQ 2 Beauty therapy or an equivalent qualification such as NC or NQ5. Relevant experience in the beauty industry (facial treatments would be advantageous)
• Direct entry with a minimum of 3 SCQF 5 qualifications (Level 5/Nat 5s), preferably including English and Biology. 

Access to Beauty Therapy (NQ6) units may include: 

• Manual and electrical facial treatments;
• Eyelash and eyebrow treatments;
• Light curing gel extensions; 
• Body massage;
• Body wraps;
• Healthy eating and wellbeing;
• Self-tanning;
• Threading techniques; 
• Intro to anatomy and physiology;
• Brush on builder gel.

This course offers regulated qualifications which are insurable.
