Do you love make-up and eyebrows? Then this exciting course will develop your creative make-up and brow skills while developing a professional understanding of skin treatments and luxury facials.

Our course will provide you with formal qualifications and includes the following Qualifications Scotland units:

Facial Therapy Treatments

Develop the skills and underpinning knowledge to perform luxury facials and create tailored treatment plans for clients. This unit provides in-depth knowledge of the skin to complement your make-up studies and enable you to offer bespoke facial treatments.

You will learn how to:

  • Conduct thorough client consultations
  • Devise personalised facial therapy treatment plans
  • Provide homecare, aftercare and retail recommendations
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatments

Assessment includes both theoretical and practical components. You will work with clients in a realistic salon environment.

Make-up skills

Step into the exciting and creative world of make-up artistry. Develop application techniques ranging from natural daytime looks to glamorous evening and inspirational styles.

You will:

  • Plan and design make-up looks using creative face charts
  • Research products, tools and techniques
  • Create photo-ready, flawless finishes for assessment

You will be required to provide your own models for assessment.

Brow Artistry

Master current trends in eyebrow styling, colouring and shaping to create beautifully defined brows.

This unit covers:

  • Researching different brow treatments
  • Client consultation procedures
  • Contra-indications and general treatment effects
  • Maintenance requirements
  • Identifying face shapes and complementary brow shapes

Learning environment

You will learn in our modern Bréagha Hair and Beauty Training Salons. As your skills develop, you will be required to bring your own models to create a range of glamorous looks.

Course details

  • Day and time: Weekly, Wednesdays, 6pm to 9pm
  • Course length: 34 weeks
  • Start date: 10 September 2025
  • End date: 3 June 2026
  • Age restriction: Applicants must be 16 or over
  • Delivery mode: Face to face, on campus. Online support and materials will be provided via Brightspace, our virtual learning environment.
  • Equipment: Make-up brushes and products will be available for use on campus; however, recommendations will be made throughout the course on an array of product brands and tools to create industry standard looks. It would be advisable to bring along your own set of make up brushes to classes and recommendations can be made to suit all budgets.
  • SCQF level: This course represents 30 SCQF credits and is delivered at SCQF level 7.
  • Cost: £344. Applicants may qualify for part time fee grant funding from SAAS.

Open book research and tasks will be used to assess the theoretical aspects as well as practical assessments throughout the duration of the course. You will be required to undertake some of this study independently.

Course fee: £344

You could be eligible for financial support to pay your course fee if you earn less than £25,000 per annum and meet residency criteria. Find out more about the Student Awards Agency Scotland Part Time Fee Grant.

If you are not eligible for the part time fee grant, you may take advantage of paying your course fees in instalments. Payment can be spread over 3 months, with the first payment of approximately £115 payable before starting the course.
