10th International Beaver Symposium
The 10th International Beaver Symposium was held in Inverness on the 17 – 19 September 2025 and hosted by the Institute for Biodiversity and Freshwater Conservation at UHI Inverness and NatureScot.
At the 9th International Symposium in 2022 at Brasov, Romania, we invited delegates to come and join us in Scotland in 2025. You can view the short video we played at the Brasov event. We were therefore delighted that our invitation resulted in 150 of the world’s leading beaver specialists joining us from 23 countries across Europe and North America to share the latest developments in beaver research and innovation. This capacity event was by far the biggest beaver symposium held to date, and the first time it had been held in the UK.
The symposium included over 60 oral presentations and 60 poster presentations. This represented a valuable collation of knowledge and experience so we want to find ways of holding and sharing it, and providing a resource for all those involved in beaver research, policy and practice. We therefore intend to collate many of the posters and PowerPoint presentations presented at the symposium and will make them available at this website in due course. Watch this space!
For the meantime, you can see details of all the presentations in our ‘Book of Abstracts’.
The symposium also provided delegates with Highland cultural experiences linked to our beautiful country and nature. In addition we teamed up with the Cairngorms National Park Authority and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland to show delegates nature restoration projects currently underway in the Cairngorms – ranging from landscape scale restoration efforts, beaver and wildcat conservation translocations, and threatened invertebrate conservation breeding and release. You can see photos from these events and the rest of the symposium.
