The two-day event brought together over 120 delegates from research institutions, government agencies, and stakeholder organisations engaged in DNA-based biodiversity monitoring and assessment.

Conference Highlights

The conference featured a dynamic and diverse program (2024 UK DNA WG Conference ), including keynote presentations, regular talks, speed presentations, and three parallel workshops. Key themes included:

  • Innovative applications of DNA tools for monitoring anthropogenic impacts and supporting conservation and restoration initiatives.
  • Advancements in bioinformatics and technology to enhance DNA-based monitoring capabilities.
  • Development of metrics and analytical tools for interpreting DNA-derived biodiversity data.
  • Stakeholder experiences in implementing and operating DNA-based monitoring approaches.

Keynote Speakers

  • Rob Ogden
“eCSI – The use of non-human DNA evidence in forensic science”
Highlighted the role of DNA in wildlife crime investigations and forensic applications.
  • Rosemary Gillespie
“Biodiversity dynamics inferred from eDNA and metabarcoding along island gradients”
Explored how environmental DNA (eDNA) and metabarcoding reveal biodiversity patterns across ecosystems.
  • Pete Hollingsworth
    “Developing a Scottish DNA hub”
Emphasised the value of centralized resources and collaboration to advance DNA-based monitoring in Scotland.
