What are the benefits of a schools programme course?

  • Explore more paths while still at school: You can choose from a wide selection of courses - from Foundation Apprenticeships and vocational courses to Highers, degree modules and NPAs - fitting your interests, ambitions and timetable. 
  • Learn in a different way to broaden your education: Our courses offer a different learning environment to school. That means a fresh approach: practical projects, college-style teaching and chances to develop hands-on, work-related skills as well as academic knowledge. 
  • Get ahead for further study or work: Senior Phase courses counts towards recognised qualifications. These courses are designed so you can progress on to full-time study with UHI Inverness (or another college/university) if you want. 
  • Flexible and fits around your school timetable: Senior Phase courses are built to work alongside your existing school commitments. They count as one of your school column choices for S4, S5 or S6. That means you don’t have to choose between school and college, you can do both.
  • Smooth transition from school into next steps: Studying at UHI Inverness helps ease the move from school to further education, training or employment. The college environment, combined with support and clear progression pathways, helps you step confidently into whatever comes next.

  • If you're offered a place, we encourage you to attend one of our Offer Holder Days, held on Friday 5 and Friday 12 June. It’s a fantastic chance to engage with lecturers, meet future classmates, and finalise your enrolment for August 2026.

  • You can apply for one course that can be studied in person on a Friday.
  • You can apply for two degree modules; it is best to take one in Semester 1 and one in Semester 2.
  • You can only study two National or Higher courses through the Schools Programme.  If you choose more, you will be classified as a full-time student and will be required to apply for funding.

  • Applications cannot be amended once they have been submitted. Please ensure you read over and check your application includes all the relevant information before submitting.

  • You will receive an email from Admissions confirming whether you have been offered a place. Please remember to check your inbox regularly, including your junk or spam folder, to ensure you don't miss any important updates.

  • If you're 21 or under, you can travel to campus by bus for free using your NEC (Young Scot card)! Just be sure to check the bus times so you arrive in plenty of time for your course.
  • Please double-check your course start time—some begin at 9am, others at 10am. It’s always better to arrive early and enjoy a bit of breakfast than to be rushing in late!

  • PPE will be provided by UHI Inverness for courses that require it and must be worn whilst in the relevant work areas.
  • If you fail to bring your PPE you will not be allowed to participate in class.

  • At UHI Inverness, we are here to support you throughout your college journey, helping you stay on track and confident in your course choice. Our campus has a dedicated Schools Team who are your main point of contact.
  • Regular attendance and communication are key. If you have any concerns, we're here to help. If you receive support at school, your Guidance Teacher will have shared relevant information to ease your transition to college.

  • If you experience any timetable clashes with your school based subjects you will be expected to catch up with school work in your own time.

  • If I receive free school meals at school, what happens at College?
    • Schools will make arrangement with individuals entitled to free school meals. Please contact your school directly for more information. All students at UHI Inverness, are entitled to free toast for breakfast and free soup and a roll at lunchtime. 
  • How do I get my free soup at lunch time?
    • Free soup at lunchtime is served from our campus cafe, The Corrie. Pupils can help themselves to a portion of soup and a roll.
  • Can I leave the campus at lunchtime? 
    • You can leave the campus at lunchtime but please ensure you are able to return in time for afternoon classes beginning.
