Dr Emma Clayes

Emma is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of the Highlands and Islands based at UHI Perth. Emma graduated from the University of Dundee in 1998 with a MA (Hons) Psychology. Emma then combined her interests in language, communication, and eye tracking by completing a PhD in multi-mediated communication at the University of Glasgow in 2003.

Now teaching on various degrees at UHI including the BSc (Hons) Psychology, BA (Hons) Social Sciences, MSc Interpretation and MSc Psychology (Conversion) degree programmes. Research interests include communication, technology and learning, literature and psychology, culture and psychology including the effects of language, identity and the environment on cognition.

Hobbies:

  • Sewing, cooking and bread making- all good survival skills started even before the pandemic.
  • Walking and cycling- for a greener world.
  • Reading -preferably German or Russian novelists, a hard exterior masks a soft heart.
  • Football: St Johnstone, Jeanfield Swifts and Celtic (not necessarily in that order).
