Business Training and Apprenticeship Programs
At UHI Inverness, our award‑winning training and apprenticeships team helps businesses across the Highlands and Islands build a skilled, future‑ready workforce. Led by Joanne MacKinnon, the team includes specialists across construction, advisory support, short courses and customer service, working with more than 300 employers and supporting over 1,000 apprentices each year.
We work closely with organisations of all sizes to understand their goals and workforce needs, offering tailored recruitment support, funding guidance, role design, ongoing apprentice check‑ins and upskilling pathways for existing staff. Whether you’re taking on your first apprentice or expanding a long‑running programme, we make the process smooth and aligned with your strategy.
Alongside apprenticeships, UHI Inverness delivers a wide range of accredited training and development options, from short courses and practical workshops to fully bespoke programmes. A training needs analysis can help you identify priorities and ensure your team gains the skills they need to succeed.

Apprenticeships
UHI is one of the largest providers of apprenticeship training in Scotland.
Apprenticeship “frameworks” are a set of industry specific qualifications, designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to undertake a job role. They offer high quality work-based learning and are designed to tackle potential skills shortages and support new or existing employees to develop. There are over 100 apprenticeship “frameworks” available, tailored to fit different job roles.

Modern Apprenticeships
Modern Apprenticeships at UHI Inverness offer a valuable opportunity to earn a wage while gaining nationally recognised qualifications through hands-on experience in real work environments. Open to individuals already in paid employment, these programmes are designed in partnership with employers and cover a wide range of sectors.
Graduate Apprenticeships
Graduate Apprenticeships are fully funded, work-based degree programmes designed to meet current industry needs and support career development. They offer a blend of academic study and practical workplace learning, with hands-on experience, mentoring, and employer collaboration.
