Graduate Apprenticeships

Contact the Business Solutions team for more details

Students can study for an honours degree while working for a company.

Inverness College UHI currently offers two graduate apprenticeships for people who are ready to study at SCQF level 8. The GA completes the apprenticeship family and enables employers to develop staff to graduate level while continuing the block release format of the modern apprenticeship.

In partnership with CITB, the university was the first in Scotland to develop and pilot a GA in Civil Engineering and Inverness College UHI is now working with its third cohort of GA civil engineering apprentices (Level 8).

The GA in Civil Engineering offers flexible entry points and the University of the Highlands and Islands can also offer a seamless transition for those who want to study throughout the apprenticeship family starting with a Foundation Apprenticeship in school at Level 6, then a modern apprenticeship fast track followed by the graduate apprenticeship.

The Level 10 was offered for the first time in September 2018.

"The University of the Highlands and Islands is very proud to be a pioneer in this type of apprenticeship and we are absolutely delighted to be able to extend our offering to provide a GA in Civil Engineering at Level 10, allowing apprentices to study right through to Honours Degree level. We have built up a very strong relationship with industry and work closely with employers so we know demand is there for this type and level of learning. It’s not only attractive to employers because it means they can provide training to an employee from the very start of their degree, it also means students can earn, learn on the job and study at the same time. It really is a win, win."

Early Learning and Childcare

Early Learning and Childcare

The framework for the BA Early Learning and Childcare has been developed by Skills Development Scotland, SSSC and employers to encourage new entrants into the early learning and childcare sector.

There is a particular focus on school leavers (including pupils who have completed the Foundation Apprenticeship in Children and Young People) and adults looking to move into the sector from another field of work.

The programme enables new entrants to the sector to achieve a relevant degree, while in employment and gain practitioner status within three years.

As the pilot is not intended for staff already working in the sector, or returners with previous qualifications and experience, for the purposes of this pilot programme all apprentices will be expected to start the programme at year one regardless of any existing qualifications.
