Motor Vehicle - IMI Diploma Level 1 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair SCQF Level 4

What is special about this course?

This course is aimed at people with a passion to work in the motor vehicle industry.

Develop your knowledge and skills in light vehicle maintenance and repair, including diagnostics, braking, fuel and transmission systems. 

This course is certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

Entry requirements

School leavers

  • Two Intermediate 1 at C or above, one of which must be in English, Maths or a Science subject.
  • Two National 3 passes, one of which must be in English, Maths or a Science subject.

Mature students

  • There are no formal entry requirements for mature applicants, although it is expected that applicants can provide evidence of relevant knowledge and skills gained in the motor vehicle industry.

  • Reducing risks when driving vehicles

  • The retail motor industry
  • Compression ignition fuel system maintenance
  • Routine vehicle maintenance processes
  • Electrical foundation skills
  • Vehicle driveline maintenance
  • Lubrication system components and operation
  • Tools, equipment and consumable materials for light vehicle maintenance
  • Light vehicle exhaust system components and maintenance

    If you have been living in the UK for at least 3 years, are ordinary resident in Scotland before the course start date it is likely that you will not have to pay fees for your full time course.  Please check our Fee Waiver Policy.

    Funding

    You may be eligible to apply for an Educational Maintenance Allowance or Bursary.

    Additional costs
