Step Into Care SCQF Level 4

What is special about this course?

This course is designed to build up your skills and confidence to help you move on to your chosen area of care practice. It is ideal if you have little formal qualification, but wish to develop your skills to work in a care setting.


Entry requirements

  • All applicants will take part in an introduction session including  information about the course, a short interview and an assessment
  • Applicants should be able to study at National 4 level or equivalent.

You will cover the following subjects on the one year programme starting in September:

  • Beauty Skills: An Introduction
  • Exploring and Improving Wellbeing
  • Care: Human Development and Behaviour
  • Care: Social Influences
  • Care: Investigating Services Assignment
  • People and Society: Comparing and Contrasting
  • Coping Strategies and Building Resilience
  • Influences on Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Understanding Mental Health Issues
  • Practical Caring Skills
  • Studies Advisor
  • Care Practice Study Skills
  • Communication
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Numeracy

Students have the option to study this course as a:

  • One year, full-time course, starting in September
  • 18-week, full-time course, starting in January
