From day one, you'll work in a realistic salon environment, learning how to consult with clients, deliver a range of barbering services and develop your own style. Whether you're looking to start your journey or turn your passion into a profession, this course gives you a solid foundation to get there.
As part of your practical training, you will be required to work on real-life clients and will be responsible for sourcing clients to complete your assessments. To support you in this, we maintain a small bank of regular clients and are happy to promote your services through our social media channels if needed.
- Your personal statement should reflect your passion for the industry.
- Applicants should be effective communicators, good personal presentation, physical stamina and a high level of manual dexterity.
- Ideally applicants may have experience, knowledge and interest in barbering or hold 3 passes at General grade National 4 including English or ESOL 4.
- This course involves working with chemicals and substances. Due to professional body requirements, applicants must be at least 16 years by the start of the course.
If you are a mature student without the above your application will be considered on life skills.

Fee information for FULL TIME SVQ2 BARBERING
If you have been living in the UK for at least 3 years, are ordinary resident in Scotland before the course start date it is likely that you will not have to pay fees for your full time course. Please check our Fee Waiver Policy.
Full time students will automatically receive the fee waiver if they are eligible. We will use the information provided on your course application form to determine whether you are eligible.

Additional costs
The cost of the course if studying part time is approx. £1,125 (payment plans are available).
You will be required to purchase a kit/uniform as part of this course (between £300 and £350). If you are eligible for a bursary these costs will be covered. www.inverness.uhi.ac.uk/study/funding/
Equipment
To replicate the professional standards in industry, you will be required to wear the designated uniform in all practical classes and closed-toe shoes/trainers provided by yourself.
