Barbering SVQ2 SCQF Level 5
What is special about this course?
This exciting practical course provides you with the training needed to pursue a career in barbering.
The course is delivered in the evening (two evenings a week in the first year and one evening in the second year), or full time over one year during the day. You will study a combination of theory and practical units to complete the SVQ 2 Barbering certificate.
Your personal statement should reflect your passion for the industry. Applicants should be effective communicators, good personal presentation, physical stamina and a high level of manual dexterity.
Ideally applicants may have experience, knowledge and interest in barbering or hold 3 passes at General grade National 4 including English or ESOL 4.
If you are a mature student without the above your application will be considered on life skills.
- Cut hair using basic barbering techniques
- Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
- Dry and finish men's hair
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
- Create basic outlines and detailing in hair

How long will my course last?
The course is 1 year if studied full time during the day, or 2 years if studied part-time in the evening.
Students studying full time will be funded if eligible, students studying in the evening will be required to pay course fees, this is approximately £1,125. Please see information on course fees: Funding - Tuition fees (uhi.ac.uk)
