What is special about this course?
The qualification is delivered in partnership with the employer, the apprentice and UHI Inverness. This means that learning and assessment are closely linked to the candidate's day-to-day role, allowing them to develop the skills required in the hairdressing industry while continuing in paid employment.
You will undertake a wide range of tasks; learning customer service skills, styling, colouring and cutting techniques, health and safety.
Candidates should be employed in a hairdressing salon.
Due to professional body requirements, applicants must be at least 16 years by the start of the course.
The following units are completed on this course to earn an SVQ2 qualification:
- Consult, assess, plan and prepare for hair, barbering, beauty, nails, wellbeing and holistic services
- Implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Set, style and dress hair
- Colour and lighten the hair
- Cut and clipper hair using hairdressing techniques
- Dry, style and finish hair using hairdressing techniques
- Braid, twist and thread wrap hair
