What is special about this course?
This Modern Apprenticeship is designed for people who are employed in a business or administration role and wish to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence in the workplace.
The programme is delivered through work-based learning, allowing apprentices to gain a nationally recognised qualification while continuing in paid employment. Rather than attending college classes, apprentices are supported to build evidence from their day-to-day job role, demonstrating their competence in areas such as communication, organisation, customer service, team working and business processes.
This apprenticeship provides a practical route into, or progression within, a career in business and administration. It benefits both employees and employers by supporting the development of skilled, confident and effective staff who can contribute positively to the workplace.

You will study for an SVQ 3 qualification the core units for this qualification are:
- Develop Self and Improve Own Performance in a Business Environment
- Undertake and Support Work Practices in a Business Environment
- Communicate in a Business Environment
Plus a further 5 credits which you will choose with your assessor.

What can I do on completion of my course?
On successful completion of your Modern Apprenticeship, you will have gained a nationally recognised qualification and valuable workplace experience in business and administration.
Possible progression routes may include roles such as:
- Administrator
- Administrative officer
- Team leader
- Tffice supervisor
- Personal assistant
- Secretary
You may also wish to undertake further study or professional development to support your longer-term career goals.
You may also wish to continue your studies in administration, business or management, including the UHI Graduate Apprenticeship BA (Hons) Business Management. This allows you to continue learning while in employment and develop higher-level business and management skills alongside your job role.
