The hospitality, tourism and leisure industry contributes around £4.2 billion to the Scottish economy and employs a workforce of around 217,000 people in Scotland. We need talented and motivated individuals to support the growth in this sector."
You’ll find out what you need to know to successfully work in the hospitality or events industry, including planning and running events, food and beverage operations, working as part of a team, providing excellent client experiences. You will have the opportunity to undertake work placement with our local industry partners.
- Four Intermediate 1 passes, to include English, or
- Four National 4 passess, to include English.
- Your personal statement should reflect your desire to work in this field. Communication skills, a willingness to learn practical skills and working with the general public are essential.
- Ideally, applicanjts will have experience/knowledge and interest in hospitality and events.
- Applications are encouraged from mature students who may not have formal qualifications but have skills required to meet the demands of the course.

Entry to the course is based on you:-
- Meeting the above entry requirements, and
- Attending a course information and selection day
- Event industry: an overview of the various sectors in the industry, including festivals, sporting events and exhibitions.
- Event costing: an introduction to budgeting to run a profitable event.
- Event organisation: work as a team to plan and run an event.
- Working as part of a team.
- Marketing: promote hospitality and events.
- Food and drink operations: work in the Sheiling interacting with members of the public, staff and students.
- Customer care.
How will I study my course?
- Full Time
- The course is a combination of classroom and practical sessions, including face-to-face teaching and groupwork.
- You'll spend time in the Sheiling, the college's training restaurant focusing on providing an excellent customer experience.
- Participate in real functions, such as business events or college celebrations.
- Go on visits to hotels, restaurants, pubs and event venues.
- Visits from local industry professionals.
- Hear top tips on how to get ahead in hospitality and events from leading employers and successful venue owners.
The course is timetabled for up to 4 days per week, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, with the possibility of working at evening events.
