Find out about Apprenticeship job opportunities at Open Evening

EMPLOYERS from across the Highlands will come together to promote their apprenticeship job opportunities at the Inverness College UHI Apprenticeship Open Evening on Wednesday 4th March, 5pm to 7pm, as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week (2nd to 6th March).

The event is an opportunity for people to explore the range of apprenticeships available, including Foundation, Modern and Graduate, find out how they work, speak to staff about the training involved and meet employers looking for new recruits.

Lecturing staff will also be available to answer questions about full-time and part-time courses starting at Inverness College UHI this September.

The apprenticeship family includes Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships and the University of the Highlands and Islands provides all three, across a range of occupations.

Joanne Mackinnon, Business Solutions Manager at Inverness College UHI, said: “The University of the Highlands and Islands works closely with employers across the region, from initial enquiries about taking on an apprentice, recruitment and shortlisting potential candidates to advice, support and guidance throughout the duration of their training programme. We are delighted to be working alongside our employers at this event to showcase the world of apprenticeships and help them recruit to vacancies they have across the Highlands and Islands right now.”

Modern Apprenticeships offer an alternative route into employment, where people are employed to undertake a job role, allowing them to earn a wage, gain valuable experience and an industry recognised qualification through college or university, all at the same time. Graduate Apprenticeships provide the same work-based learning opportunity but up to Master’s degree level. The university is particularly keen to hear from employer partners interested in finding out more about its Graduate Apprenticeships in Civil Engineering and Early Learning and Childcare.

Inverness College UHI currently training to over 900  modern and graduate apprentices every year, for a wide range of careers in motor vehicle, business and management, carpentry & joinery, painting & decorating, brickwork , civil engineering, customer service,  childcare, electrical installation, engineering, forestry, financial services, hairdressing,  hospitality, IT, plumbing and healthcare.

Foundation Apprenticeships are a work-based learning opportunity for S5 and S6 secondary school pupils, which they choose as part of their option choices at school. Lasting one or two years, they include time at college and with a local employer to help them gain valuable, real-world work experience and an industry-recognised qualification, equivalent to a higher.  Foundation Apprenticeships enable young people to progress on to a higher-level apprenticeship or a degree programme. Inverness College UHI offers Foundation Apprenticeships in business skills, ICT hardware and system support, ICT software development, childcare, healthcare, civil engineering, engineering, creative and digital media, and scientific technologies, all starting June.
