Alice Fogg, George Gunn, Isabel McLeish, Suzann Barr

We have 4 main speakers attending -

Alice Fogg, Community and Digital Engagement Officer at the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub

Alice will give us an insight into the various community groups and initiatives that are running a variety of climate action projects across the Highlands from bustling repair cafes to community orchards and innovative refill shops.

George Gunn, Climate Strategy Officer for Moray Council and Associate Researcher at UHI

George will discuss his ground-breaking research which was carried out in Inverness to investigate the effects of man-made structures, surfaces and the weather.  The aim of his project was to measure the impacts of the 'urban heat island' effect - a phenomenon where buildings, roads and other infrastructure absorb and emit more heat than the surrounding rural environment, raising warmth in built-up areas.

Isabel McLeish, Climate Project Officer at Highland Community Waste Partnership/Velocity

Isabel will be discussing reducing waster and building a movement for more sustainable consumption in the Highlands by working across 3 key areas.

  1. Food waste and composting.
  2. Share and repair instead of buying new.
  3. Packaging and single-use items.

Suzann Barr from Abriachan Forest Trust

Suzann will explain how Abriachan Forest Trust's educational activities are helping people to adapt to the needs of a 'net zero way of life' and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
