Adopt an apprentice

content

The initiative offers £2000 to companies who take on Modern Apprentices who have lost their jobs due to downsizing. The incentive covers all sectors. It is £5,000 for the Oil and Gas sector only.

Adopt an Apprentice is not the only funding available to encourage businesses to continue investing in training. Safeguard an Apprentice offers support to companies who are having difficulties keeping on their trainees due to the current economic circumstances. This is available to firms in the Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction sectors, and provides a £75 per week wage subsidy to help ensure that Modern Apprentices can complete their qualification.

Another funding stream available is the Employer Recruitment Incentive, which pays £1000 to employers who take on young people as Modern Apprentices who would otherwise find it hard to secure jobs.

These schemes are provided as part of the Scottish Government's ScotAction support package for businesses, and are administered by Skills Development Scotland.
