Graduate story: 'I have achieved things I never thought possible when I first started my HNC course'
A career switch to administration after 17 years in the childcare sector led Louise MacKenzie to study HNC Administration and Information Technology part time at UHI Inverness while working part time at its campus.
Louise, an Academic Administrative Officer, progressed from a Professional Development Award to an HNC and graduated in October after three years of study. Her positive learning experience means she is open to undertaking further learning with UHI Inverness in the future.
“One of the best things about UHI Inverness is the amount of learning opportunities available and how these are facilitated to meet the needs of the students. As all my previous qualifications related to childcare, I wanted to undertake a course which would develop and enhance my administrative skills,” she said,
“I enjoyed learning completely new skills such as how to record financial transactions and medical terminology. The style of teaching was fantastic, and all my classes were interesting and engaging. The support from my lecturers was amazing, they took time to answer questions and found the best options which allowed me to juggle work and study – I honestly wouldn’t have got through the last three years without them. I am more confident, and my administrative skills have greatly improved since starting the course. As a slightly more mature student, I have achieved things I never thought possible when I first started – such as getting an A in my final exam.”
