Graduation 2025: Priest and popular influencer 'enriched' by counselling studies at UHI Inverness

A Catholic priest and Christian influencer with an online following of two million people turned to UHI Inverness for the skills he needed to respond more effectively to ‘constant calls’ for guidance and mental health support.

Reverend James Anyaegbu (39) from Beauly graduated with HND Counselling at UHI Inverness. The course stood out as the only option that allowed him to balance academic learning with his pastoral duties.

Father James currently serves seven Highland parish communities and is the founder and director of the Faith-Chat Platform where Christians participate in prayer and active charity.

“I began my counselling studies at UHI Inverness unsure of what to expect, but the journey proved deeply enriching and transformative. Guided by my dedicated lecturers and supported by my classmates from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, we grew into a strong and supportive community.”

He enjoyed the skills practice sessions at UHI Inverness and a work placement which became a valuable part of his growth.

“I discovered how essential the skills of listening, empathy and reflection are for both counselling and pastoral ministry. This course has helped me to deepen those skills in ways that will continue to shape the way I serve God’s people. This experience has inspired me to continue my academic journey with an MSc in Psychology, integrating faith and psychology to bring hope and healing to those I am privileged to serve.”

Father James said the people he serves were the biggest source of motivation during his studies, allowing him to bring them hope, healing, and empowerment.
