Graduation profile: I'm grateful that UHI Inverness changed me in such a positive way

A major spinal operation when she was a teenager left Zoe-Amber Campbell wondering what the future held for her, and she found the answer at UHI Inverness.

She credits the support she received over the last four years at UHI Inverness for ‘changing her in a positive way’ by increasing both her skills and her confidence.

Zoe-Amber (20) from Alness graduated with HND Beauty Therapy and now works part-time in a salon and also as a self-employed beauty therapist.

“Before I came to UHI Inverness I had just had major spinal surgery at 15 and was worried what I was going to do with my life,” she said.
“My teachers at Alness Academy spoke to the college to make sure I would be accommodated for my needs with extra help and support. What they offered was amazing and the lectures always made me feel included. They were so good to me when I first met them and that’s what inspired me to spend the next four years at UHI Inverness to learn about beauty therapy. I enjoyed being able to grow my confidence and make the most incredible friends along the way. The teaching and support I received was amazing and very inclusive – the lecturers are brilliant at what they do and were always there for help when I needed it. I feel I have changed a lot during my time at UHI Inverness. I was very shy and quiet at first and now I’ve the confidence to be able to go and do things that I thought I would never be able to at the start, such as handing a full busy day of clients. I’m very grateful that it changed me in a positive way.”
