Graduation profile: Studies help Royal Navy serviceman chart new course to leadership
Studying a Master’s degree at UHI Inverness was the best, if not the most obvious, option for a Royal Navy serviceman who lives in Swansea and works in Plymouth.
Davinder Hayer (42) was urged to study MSc Human Resources Management part time and online at UHI Inverness by his wife, who is a former student and his biggest cheerleader.
When he decided to expand his knowledge and skills, his wife’s positive experience encouraged him to take a closer look at UHI Inverness. Its impressive reputation for ‘high-quality education, supportive learning environment, and the flexibility of its programmes’ made it clear it was the right choice for him.

“What truly stood out for me, was the excellent level of support I received,” he said.
“The course has significantly deepened my understanding within HR management. I’ve developed stronger analytical and critical thinking skills, which have helped me approach challenges in my professional role. On a personal level, the experience has been incredibly rewarding, pushing me out of my comfort zone. The MSc has not only enhanced my knowledge and skills but also broadened my perspective, making me better equipped to take on leadership roles within the Royal Navy and beyond.”
