Baking for Beginners - Stage 2

Six classes to run 6pm to 8.30pm on Tuesdays at Inverness College UHI.

This course is more advanced and technical than Stage 1 and has a focus on complete desserts.  Although, it is not essential to have attended the first stage of this course.

Digital Photography Intermediate

Six classes from 10.00 am - 12 noon on Saturday mornings in Inverness College UHI

Saturday mornings, 17, 24 February; 3, 10, 17, 24 March 2018

This course is aimed at photographers who have done the Beginners Course at the college or have some experience of working in manual and would like to increase their knowledge of controlling exposure across different scenes.

You will learn what settings and equipment to use for various scenes, how to evaluate different lighting conditions, white balance correctly and when to add flash. You will also cover the different focus modes including back button focus.

Week 1: Manual and semi auto review - Review of camera setting with emphasis on exposure controls compared with AUTO Histograms.   Focus Modes

Week 2: Exposure Methods - Spot, Centre weighted, Matrix. When to use Bracketing Exposure. Back Button Focus

Week 3: Controlling exposure and White Balance - Over and under exposure, RAW or JPEG Fast and Slow lenses.

Week 4: Exposure for different scenes - Backlit, snowy, bright, dull, dark, hi contrast. Long Exposures. WB methods.

Week 5: Using flash, Lighting Aids - Fill in flash, Off camera flash, Controlling, Lighting

Week 6: Filters and HDR - Using filters to extend exposure range. Look at High dynamic range scenes. Creative exposure!

Nail Extension Unit

In this weekly 3 hour class, you will work with Creative Nail Design (CND) products.  You will develop the skills to design and apply nail extensions to industry standards.  If successful, you will achieve the Higher National unit in Nail Extension at level 7, part of the HNC Beauty Therapy framework.

This programme will develop your ability to apply artificial nail extensions. You will be expected to work on clients working to industry standards and timings. This SQA unit is part of the HNC Beauty Therapy framework.
